I have been working in the Social Services field over the past twenty years in British Columbia.   I have been providing client centered counselling as a Substance Use counsellor working with the South Asian Community in Surrey since 2009.  I work with a Community Resources Society that  is a registered non for profit agency offering a wide range of services and programs to the culturally diverse communities of the lower mainland in British Columbia. I am also a facilitator running groups for the Responsible Driver’s Program in British Columbia since 2014.

I completed my criminology diploma at the University of the Fraser Valley located in Abbotsford in 1999.  I also received my Substance Abuse Counselling Certificate from the University of Abbotsford in the year of 2000.  I also attended the Justice Institute of British Columbia in 2001 and completed the certificate in Youth Custody Work Program located in New Westminster B.C.  Working in the Substance Use field with diverse range of cultural backgrounds of clients I can speak four different languages such as Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, and English.

In my time of working in the social services field I have worked with many different cultural backgrounds of youth and adults in the lower mainland of Vancouver B.C. dealing with addictions and mental health.  I had the great privilege of working for the Langley Youth Resource Centre operated by the Salvation Army from 1997-2002 as a Substance Abuse Counsellor.  This program was the first province wide treatment facility that serviced high risk youth with addiction issues in B.C.  I also worked as a youth worker in the group homes in Vancouver dealing with street youth with substance use problems and mental health from 1999-2007.  I also have worked as a Youth Counsellor with the Boys & Girls club of Delta/Richmond from 2007-2009.  I did volunteer coaching for youth in 1995-1997 as rugby coach in Abbotsford working with youth in grade 8 introducing the concept of the game.

I have been a member of the Canadian Addictions Counsellors Certification  Federation  (CACCF)  since October 2013 and attained my International Certified Alcohol & Drug Counsellor (I.C.A.D.C.) designation through CACCF in 2014.  I also attained my Canadian Certified Addictions Counsellor (C.C.A.C.) in January of 2017.  In September 0f 2016 I was selected with other Subject Matter Experts across the country to help develop the first Addictions exam for CACCF which was a great honor and privilege to do so
