This online course is designed for Mental Health Professionals who are already providing (or planning to provide) counselling/therapy and support for couples in relationship distress. While it focuses on the couple in their present situation, it also considers the couples' past experiences and how past learning and experiences have impactd their views of themselves, others and the future, and how their thinking patterns detract from postive interpersonal exchanges. Participants will learn how to help couples identify how cognitive factors (thinking) influences affect (feelings) as well behavioural exchange (marital eruptions and distress). Despite the level of love they may have felt, and likely still feel at some level, people in serious committed relationships wound each other, often severely. These wounds can be emotional or sexual affairs, inability to cope through traumatic loss and life changing events, blended family issues, safety issues such as domestic violence and child abuse, lack of responsibility over the use of money, time and resources, substance and process addictions, sexual problems, and more.
