The Ottawa Maberly Addiction Rehabilitation Residence is a new addiction rehab opening in Maberly, Ontario. We are looking for a head counselor. Job Description: • Provide before and after care services and related case management to community treatment or other community services as needed • Meeting with clients to evaluate their health and substance problem • Maintains, updates and secures all appropriate documentation related to clients/residents and initiates any new documentation; • Identifying issues and create goals and treatment plans • Teach clients coping mechanisms • Leading group or one on one therapy sessions • Use appropriate, approved assessment tools and activities to accurately determine a Client’s strengths and weaknesses • Design and implement a goal-oriented care plan • Provide crisis intervention, supportive Counselling and advocacy as required • Address all issues of inappropriate behaviours, inter-personal conflict, lack of regard for authority or responsibilities by Clients/Residents in the Treatment setting in an appropriate therapeutic manner as required • The ability to understand the dynamics of offender behaviour and assess their needs and risks • The skills to understand the use of authority in supervision and to intervene effectively in crisis situations; • Skills in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing • The ability to demonstrate cultural competence and respect for diversity Qualifications: • Minimum education: college diploma specific to addictions and mental health training and an addiction counselling certificate (eg: ICADC from CACCF). • University degree in social work or psychology is an asset. • Knowledge of social work, psychology and addiction counselling best practices and a proven ability to work in an intensive, residential treatment environment. • Minimum of 2 years of experience working as an addictions counselor. • Residential experience is an asset • Current First Aid and CPR training certificates.
