Function and Duties
Integrates the principles of alcohol and drug addictions treatment and the goals of treatment
into a comprehensive inpatient treatment program. Client assessment, treatment, planning and implementation of program activities, group process, monitoring of clients and their progress. Maintain written records as deemed necessary per the Center’s policies and practices.
As a member of the Isuarsivik Team, the Counselor will assist in the development and
presentation of all program materials on issues related to the underlying causes of
addictions, etc. Provide overall support to other team members at the center with respect to
The Counselor will support the Clinical Supervisor in the coordination of the program’s goals, activities and other management functions related to the delivery of the inpatient treatment program.
The Counselor must maintain a healthy lifestyle, observe the ethics appropriate to the
alcohol and drug counseling profession and behave accordingly
University certificate from either a Social Service program or an addiction program or an
undergraduate degree in the field of social work.
The candidate must be a certified addictions counsellor.
Two years’ experience counseling Inuit/First Nations clients.
Five years’ experience counseling clients with addictions issues (mainly alcohol and drugs).
Possess the ability to deliver lectures in a group setting.
Must have strong interpersonal skills and be comfortable working in an Indigenous setting.
Inuktitut is an asset, English required.
Valid driver’s license and a security check must be provided
Salary is very competitive and based on Nunavik health and social services network. It will be determined depending on qualifications and experience.
